10 – Aeoncademy’s Winter Open Day

There’ll be something for everyone from pre-schoolers to parents! Play with clay, paint with watercolours, check out students’ work, draw, get crafty and more! There’ll also be delicious food from Scrumpers Garden for a gold coin donation. The Winter Holiday Program will also be released. Meet the Aeonacademy team and learn all about education through creativity. There’ll also be a raffle to raise money for 5-year-old Freyja who’s battling cancer.

9 – The Makers and Shakers Market

Check out the dozens of stalls selling a range of items like homewares, furniture, food, flowers, stationary, photography, fashion, jewellery and more. The Market gives talented makers an affordable and fun place to show and sell their wares and it’s also a great chance for shoppers to pick up some wonderful treasures.

8 – Winter Gemcraft and Mineral Show

If you love sparkly gems and collecting rocks, you’ll be in heaven at the Canberra Lapidary Club’s Winter Gemcraft and Mineral Show! Check out the wide variety of rough and cut gemstones, jewellery, minerals, fossils, opals, crystals, beading supplies and lapidary equipment. Members’ rock collections will also be on display!

7 – YMCA Canberra Half Marathon

This race is a big annual event in the running calendar, attracting local and interstate runners. The Half Marathon gets underway at 9am on Sunday, with 1.6km and 5km fun runs on Saturday. Get the kids involved! If you haven’t already signed up, entries will also be taken on Saturday from 1pm-3pm.

6 – Radford Art Show

View the range of works by 74 artists including paintings, glass, ceramics, woodwork and sculpture! Those attending the show can vote for their favourite piece and a ‘People’s Choice’ award will be announced before the show closes on Sunday. Demand for the artworks is likely to be strong!

5 – Googong Display Village Open Day

Check out Canberra’s biggest new home display village opening at Googong! 15 of 20 new homes will be open for inspection, with a host of exciting new ideas from the ACT’s leading builders. There’ll also be a family fun element, with live music, face-painting, a glitter tattoo stall and the “tong masters” from the Jerrabomberra Rotary Club will cook up a storm on the barbies! Kids will also have a ball in the new Gumnut Park playground.

4 – National Capital Rally

See international motor sport stars in action! On Saturday the rally will be held at Kowen Forest and spectators can view the rally from the Hibernian Gate Spectator Point at 9:50am and 1:40pm. There’ll also be more rally action and free activities at the Kennards Hire Rally Village from 11am-12:30pm. The action’s at Paddy’s River on Sunday with spectator points along Paddy’s River Road at 10:15am and 10:20am followed by a 4pm presentation at Majura Park.

3 – National Botanic Gardens Open Day

Celebrate the Botanic Gardens with craft activities, face painting, behind-the-scenes tours, botanic art demonstrations, yoga and massage and more! Learn how staff there are helping save threatened plants. What better way to spend the last Sunday of Autumn?

2 – Red Shield Appeal doorknock

Volunteers will knock on doors around Canberra this weekend to raise money for The Salvation Army. The Red Shield Appeal is the Salvos major annual fundraiser to finance their work helping Canberrans in need of services like counselling and homelessness support. Locals are encouraged to volunteer their time or give generously to this important cause.

1 – Raiders vs Roosters

Expect plenty of fireworks in what’s sure to be a physical encounter at GIO Stadium on Sunday! The Raiders will wear special jerseys to promote the #AutismWellbeing message – raising money for the Ricky Stuart Foundation. Eden Dance Academy will also provide the pre-game entertainment. Our guys haven’t played at home in over a month, so they’d love a strong home crowd!
